ABOUT US

Oxford Horn Choir is a group of professional, semi-professional and amateur French horn players who simply love to play horn. We have a total of over 40 horn players in our group. All the players are heavily involved in Oxford and London amateur and semi-professional orchestras during the music seasons. You can see many of our members perform in the various Oxfordshire symphony orchestras.

We meet monthly just for fun and perform more diverse repertoire than the usual orchestral "standards". Our horn repertoire ranges from duets and trios to arrangements for full 16-horn choir.

Oxford Horn Choir performs a variety of music including classical, jazz, popular music and arrangements from opera, ballet, film music and musicals We are available to play for special events and concerts.

Oxford Horn Choir was formed in November 2013 when one its founder members, Amy Thakurdas, realised that Oxford had over 60 local horn players, many of whom were wanting to play much more repertoire.

Our players are mainly drawn from the local professional and amateur symphony orchestras.  After discovering the wealth of talent at Oxford University, we also recruited the students and they have performed with us since. We also are fortunate enough to have ex-principal horn players from major symphony orchestras who join us when their busy work life permits. However, our members are drawn from various walks of life including professors, teachers, lawyers, computer experts, scientists, business owners and more. The love of playing music and particularly French horn music has brought us altogether and we enjoy our very special musical performances.  Our youngest player is just 19 years old; our oldest is 65!
